I love asparagus and am always happy when I see it show up again in our local co-op. I find that the simplest preparations are the best for this beautiful vegetable.
Toss in a bowl with olive oil, and generous amounts of salt and pepper. Spread on a wire rack over a cookie sheet and place in the oven under the broiler. Cook for about ten minutes then turn them over and cook another ten minutes. Eat them right away or reserve them for use chopped up and in a salad.
